Prep work is done online with the PADI website. Typically, the online work takes around 8 hours to complete, and once it's completed, we move on to the review, pool and practical scuba instruction sessions.

From the date of your initial registration, each Open Water Student has 12 months to finish their certification. The online work may be completed from the comfort of your home - freeing up your valuable vacation time!

MEDICAL CONCERNS

There are some medical conditions that don’t jive with scuba diving. If you’re generally healthy and a non-smoker you shouldn’t have any issues. There is amedical questionaire that we ask you to please read through. If there are any conditions that apply to you, there is a scuba physical form that your doctor will need to fill out in order to approve you for the physical activities presented when scuba diving. Let us know and we can send it to you. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. We also have a local doctor here who is acquainted with scuba physicals, should you need one.

Session 1: Classroom Review & Intro to Dive Equipment

Your instructor will review key points you learned in the home study portion and answer any questions you might have. We will set up a 'scuba unit' and demonstrate its features. We also complete all the pre-dive paperwork: release forms, knowledge reviews, etc. If needed we will outfit you with snorkel gear. We have superb equipment at excellent prices and guarantee your satisfaction.

Duration is about 2 hours. We typically take a short lunch break then meet back up for…

Session 2: Pool Training

Let's blow some bubbles! Relaxing and breathing through your mouth is all it takes. We will assemble and test equipment, then learn and practice scuba skills. Patience is key as we swim you down the path to scuba proficiency. We may complete all the pool requirements that day, if not we will wrap it up just prior to session 3. We take as long as needed to ensure all skills are mastered and each diver becomes comfortable in the water.

Duration varies based on class size and comfort level, generally 3.5+ hours.

Sessions 3 & 4: Open Water Dives (done over 2 days)

Let's dive! We may do dives 1 & 2 in Tarpon Bay, entering the water off of a dock. No currents or waves means no potential seasickness!
Tarpon Bay is Approx 3 to 4 hours.

For dives 3 & 4 we will be onboard our 32 ft. Twin Vee custom dive boat, the Psychquatic and big thrills await! For more details see About Gulf Diving. If time is a constraint or if the weather isn't cooperating with your schedule, we can do dives 3 & 4 in Tarpon Bay if need be to complete your certification.

Finally, we wrap up your certification by logging your dives and taking a salty 'glamour shot' for your Open Water Diver certification card!

Your comfort level and proficiency in the water is our priority! We understand that there is a lot of information to comprehend and we all learn at our own pace. We’ve trained thousands of divers over 25 years and are well versed at helping students overcome any anxieties they may have.

At Scuba Marco, patience & kindness are always free!

Instruction Fees

Adventure / Advanced Diver

The next stride beyond the Open Water Certification.  The PADI Advanced Open Water Diver program is 5 Adventure dives, which can be completed in just 2 days of diving.  We start in Tarpon Bay to allow you to practice important dive skills like dive planning, navigation/compass work, and buoyancy control.  Our instructors will help you to fine tune your neutral buoyancy skills; while also helping increase your ability to Navigate underwater.  Using the PADI eLearning program allows for minimal classroom time… the focus is on diving and applying new skills and concepts underwater! Flexibility is key and Scuba Marco will cater our programs to meet your needs and time constraints!  Remember, each Adventure Dive qualifies as the first dive of each PADI Specialty. (Specialty certifications go more in depth on each area and generally require 2 to 4 dives per specialty.)

The Advanced course helps you build confidence in navigation, fine-tune buoyancy skills and introduces you to different diving activities such as wreck diving, night diving or underwater imaging. After completing your eLearning, you'll make five Adventure Dives: a deep dive (beyond 18m/60F), a navigation dive, and three additional Adventure Dives of your choice to earn your certification. Dives and Instruction are done over two days.

During the Deep Adventure Dive, you learn how to plan dives to deal with the physiological effects and challenges of deeper scuba diving. The Underwater Navigation Adventure Dive refines your compass navigation skills and helps you better navigate using kick-cycles, visual landmarks and time.
