Another successful Reef Clean-Up on the Second Reef Piles! Scuba Marco would like to thank all our volunteers that helped remove 190 items weighing up to 200 lbs from a number of popular Marco Island dive and fishing spots.
Everyone worked hard to remove the items from the reefs, including 6 cast nets and 1 HUUGE shrimping net of rope with heavy metal wire woven into the netting (Nice Job Chris, Rex, Brandon, and Arleigh). We also brought up a ton of fishing and anchor line. The good news is that we removed less material then we did the first time.
Specifically, we want to thank the 5 boat captains that graciously volunteered their boats to carry the 18 divers that came out to dive and clean the 5 Mile Reef Piles! Jeff Dawson, Chris “Stretch” Kimble, Todd Murvine, Brooks Swift, and Paul Doppelt. Hope you were able to clean everything off.
Additionally, we would like to thank Sunshine Ace Hardware for donating work gloves and plastic tarps as well as Collier County Waste Management for bringing over a dumpster to haul everything away. A big shout out to Leslie Taylor with Stream2Sea for donating reef safe sunscreen and other products.
